What is Adwords?

There are a few different ways to advertise your website, one of those is Adwords.

Adwords is an advertising model offered by Google. Other platforms such as Facebook and Twitter offer a similar avenue of advertising. In fact, most popular social media sites and search engines will allow you to advertise on their search results pages, affiliate websites and advertising network – for a fee, of course.

All of these advertising avenues operate on the pay per click method. The concept is simple – you decide what searches or audiences you want to appear in and create a campaign around these markets. You then create a few advertisements designed to entice users to click on your ads. Your account is then charged for each click on an advertisement.

While the concept is fairly simple to understand, the implementation of an Adwords, or any other pay per click model, campaign can be tricky. If you do not narrow down your market enough you will waste a lot of money on irrelevant clicks. If you narrow things down too much, you will not make any sales as your audience does not get your message.

Once you have your market worked out, you need to decide how much you are willing to spend on each click as a maximum. Adwords will never charge you more than your bid ceiling. It may charge you less than you are willing to pay. Bidding is a delicate balancing act between paying so much per click that you actually don’t make a profit from the campaign or offering so little that your advertisements are never seen.

The setting up and management of an Adwords campaign is not something that should be handled by an amateur. The risk of spending a lot of money for no return is high. Naturally, the possibility of a great return on investment is also good. Google Adwords and other pay per click advertising platforms are a great way to give your online presence a boost, especially if you are having a flash sale or promotion that you have not had the time to advertise through other avenues. When Adwords is combined with techniques like email marketing and search engine optimisation, you can reach a huge potential market for your products and services.
